Technical SEO Foundations: What Actually Moves Rankings

Make the Site Easy to Crawl

Before a page can rank, a search engine has to find it, read it, and understand it. That means a clean information architecture, a valid sitemap, sensible internal links, and no accidental noindex tags or robots rules blocking the very pages you want found. Most ranking problems we diagnose are crawl problems in disguise.

Speed is now table stakes. Core Web Vitals are a ranking signal, and more importantly, a slow page loses the visitor before the content ever earns the click. Right-size images, defer what is not needed, and measure on a real mid-range phone rather than your fast laptop.

Structure Tells the Story

Semantic HTML, a single clear H1, and a logical heading order help both readers and crawlers follow the page. Structured data — schema for articles, products, FAQs and breadcrumbs — turns that structure into rich results and gives answer engines something concrete to quote.

Match Intent, Not Just Keywords

The best technical setup cannot rescue content that answers the wrong question. Before writing, work out what a searcher actually wants — to learn, to compare, or to buy — and shape the page to deliver it. Intent is the strategy; technical SEO is what lets it show up.
