Speed Is a Design Constraint

Every visual decision has a weight. A full-bleed hero video, a carousel of high-resolution photos, a fourth web font loaded for a single heading — each one is a promise the browser has to keep before a visitor sees anything useful. We treat that budget the way we treat a grid: as a constraint that makes the work sharper.

On an Arcform build, Largest Contentful Paint under 2.5 seconds and Cumulative Layout Shift under 0.1 are not stretch goals. They are the floor. If a design choice cannot hit that floor on a mid-range phone over a normal connection, we redesign the choice, not the target.

Where the Weight Actually Goes

Images and fonts account for most of the payload on the sites we inherit. Right-sizing images, serving modern formats, subsetting fonts, and deferring anything below the fold usually recovers seconds — not milliseconds. The result reads as polish, but it is really just discipline about what loads and when.
